Crumbling wall with asbestos

Homeowners

If you own and live on the property, asbestos regulations do not apply to removal work carried out in or around your own home. However, they do apply to any person you engage to work on your home. Please review the Ministry of Health guidelines here.

Whilst products containing asbestos are in good condition, they don’t pose a major risk to health. Once materials are cut, sanded, water blasted, or broken up, asbestos fibres are released and the risk is greatly increased. Because of this risk, the Ministry of Health recommends that you use a WorkSafe New Zealand licensed asbestos removalist to remove any substantial quantity of asbestos.

If you engage a contractor to carry out your asbestos removal, you become a PCBU (person conducting a business or undertaking), new rules apply. Contractors must be appropriately licensed with WorkSafe or be removing less than 10sqm.

For preparation and removal of materials, please see below, and contact us for free, friendly advice on the materials required to be removed.

Tradies
AND Contractors

Whilst undertaking work for clients, many contractors come across asbestos containing material (ACM). Builders are allowed to remove <10 sqm or they may come across larger amounts as an "incidental find" .

Preparation

The key to successful and safe asbestos removal is preparation!

ACDC are licensed to remove asbestos and have significant experience within the industry, however our core service is a pickup service of materials already removed, ie. Old fence panels, roofing, pipework, laminate flooring, or fibre cement.

For safety reasons, asbestos needs to be secured so that in handling it you are not putting ourselves, and your families in danger. Basic safety measures include ensuring you are wearing correct fitting PPE, and a P2 (minimum) mask is worn. Wrap asbestos in 200micron plastic/polytene and tape it well – no larger than the size of a suitcase.

ACDC supply DIY removal and hazibags for the collection of Asbestos.

Once the material is contained, give us a call. We aim to collect within 24 hours.
